Dr. Hanif graduated from Aga Khan University (AKU) in Karachi, Pakistan in 1991. After his internship at AKU, he completed his residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology at SUNY at Stony Brook, New York. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiovascular CTA.
Dr. Hanif worked in a cardiology group practice in Hamilton, New Jersey for 4 years before moving to Pakistan in August 2004 to set up a state of the art 170 beds not for profit cardiac hospital -Tabba Heart Institute (THI) on International standards. He has been the founding Medical Director and Chief of Cardiology at THI since 2004. Currently, he is also the Executive Director of the THI as well.
Today THI has become one of the most successful and busiest private heart institutes in Pakistan with PCI volumes of over 1500 per year and open-heart surgeries of over 1400 per year. He also had the honor of establishing first of its kind general and interventional cardiology fellowship program on American standards at THI.
Dr. Hanif has over 40 publications in national and international journals. He performs complex coronary and peripheral interventions including below-knee CLI interventions as well as structural heart disease interventions. He is currently the President of the Pakistan Society of Interventional Cardiology and Secretary of the Faculty of Cardiology for the College of Physicians, Pakistan (CPSP). He is also a Board Member of Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology. He is also Medical Director for Heartbeat International Pakistan – NGO providing free pacemakers for indigent patients in Pakistan. They have an active general cardiology and interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at THI. Dr. Hanif has started the Cardiac Registry of Pakistan (CROP) and currently serving as the National Director for the Cardiac Registry of Pakistan.
