David Zidar, MD, PhD, FSCAI | SCAI

I am a physician-scientist and interventional cardiologist. After completing residency and fellowships in medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology at Johns Hopkins and Duke, I joined the Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute (HHVI) at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. I served as program director of Interventional Cardiology between 2016-2020, and was selected for the Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program by the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions.

I obtained a PhD in Immunology in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Robert J. Lefkowitz studying the signaling properties of chemokines, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of ligand bias. As a KL2 career development awardee, my research explored the interplay between immunologic dysfunction and cardiovascular disease. I am the Associate Section Chief of Cardiology and Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and Co-Director of the CWRU-COVID task force, Immunology and Immunotherapeutic section. Current research leverages basic/translational experimental approaches to understand the heterogeneity of immunologic endotypes and how this frames immune responses to infectious exposures and cardiovascular insults.
