SCAI Congenital Heart Council Chair and Co-Chair, Dennis W. Kim, MD, PhD, FSCAI, and Audrey C. Marshall, MD, MPH, FSCAI, led a group of committed interventional cardiologists to address concerns regarding a Drug Safety Communication (DSC) recommending thyroid testing within three weeks for all infants and children under three years of age who receive iodinated contrast media (ICM). Making the strong argument that the current data was insufficient to warrant the DSC, SCAI members recently prevailed upon the FDA to issue clarifying language allowing physicians to treat their patients on a case-by-case basis.
