Nestor Mercado MD, PhD, FESC graduated from medical school at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. He completed a PhD thesis at the Thoraxcenter - Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He trained in Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI, USA followed by Fellowships in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA, USA, Interventional Cardiology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, MO, USA and Peripheral Endovascular and Structural Heart Interventions at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA, USA. He is an Interventional Cardiologist at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, NM, USA. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and the subspecialties of Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. His research interests are broad and include clinical outcomes in patients undergoing coronary revascularization and structural heart interventions. He has written 10 book chapters, presented 50 abstracts at the Annual Scientific Sessions of the American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, American Heart Association and Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics and published 30 original manuscripts in some of the highest impact Cardiology Journals.
