Congenital Heart Disease Interventional Cardiology Course
December 3–7, 2021
This course is now full and applications have closed.
Program Overview
The SCAI Fellows Congenital Heart Disease Interventional Cardiology Course is unique in interventional cardiology. No other society offers in-depth education for pediatric cardiologists pursuing invasive therapy competency. SCAI physician educators have honed this course for more than a decade to bring you the most impactful content. In this course, you will learn about the most frequent pediatric cardiology procedures like atrial septic defects (ASDs), patent ductus arteriosus(PDA), ventricular septal defect (VSD) closures, balloon aortic valvuloplasty, balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty, transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement, coil embolization of arteriovenous malformation (AV) malformations and collaterals, and aortic coarctation and pulmonary artery stenosis interventions. While clinical learning is paramount, you will also deepen your professional network by interacting with the tight-knit community of pediatric interventionalists.
Through access to experienced SCAI leaders, collaboration with industry supporters, and interaction with your peers, the SCAI Fellows Congenital Heart Disease Interventional Cardiology Course will enable you to:
- Analyze the hemodynamics of congenital cardiac defects, like left-to-right shunt and right-to-left shunt lesions, and the hemodynamic results of pre-Glenn and pre-Fontan procedures.
- Assess operator and patient risks from invasive angiography and intervention and review risk mitigation strategies.
- Discuss the essential echocardiographic assessments, device selection, procedural requirements, and pitfalls for the most common congenital procedures.
- Evaluate the role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and other ventricular support devices in the cath lab.
- Identify the various diseases that present in adults with congenital heart disease and their management.
- Interpret angiographic data in congenital cardiac defects and envision the best angiographic projections for each defect.
- Employ new advanced imaging during interventional cardiac procedures.
- List the equipment and supplies needed to perform cases safely and effectively in a congenital cardiac cath lab.
