Bibhu D. Mohanty, MD, FSCAI | SCAI

Dr. Mohanty completed medical school and residency in Medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, followed by advanced training in Interventional Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Structural Intervention at Dartmouth Medical School. He was then recruited to the University of South Florida / Tampa General Hospital in 2017 to expand structural heart services and served as the institution's first Director of Structural Intervention from 2018-2020. He is presently an Associate Professor of Medicine and directs the coronary and structural interventional fellowship programs. Dr. Mohanty also founded and directs a unique Neuro-cardiac Program that has received national acclaim as a model of high-value care.

In addition to involvement in several multi-center clinical trials to date, Dr. Mohanty’s academic interests center around novel approaches in structural intervention, particularly the use of device therapies in untested, high-risk populations. Dr. Mohanty also has an interest in collaborative program development and the study of how this might optimize care experience and indices of quality and cost-effectiveness. Outside the institution, Dr. Mohanty sits on several advisory and editorial boards and consultancy panels and has served as a proctor for structural heart procedures.

Amidst his busy clinical schedule, his favorite activity is teaching advanced fellows the nuances of doctoring. Beyond the technicalities of procedures or diagnostic tests, he is proud that his fellows matriculate not only as skilled operators but as humble and devoted physicians who care about their patients. Outside of work, Dr. Mohanty enjoys spending time with his family and reconnecting with old friends. He enjoys writing, days at the beach and is an undercover foodie.
