Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee (BC/BS of TN) recently changed their utilization management policy to make the goal length of stay for TAVR 23-hour observation. Initial authorization would only be given for observation. Additional authorization must be requested if the patient was admitted.
After SCAI sent a letter to BC/BS of TN opposing this policy because outpatient observation for TAVR is inconsistent with the current standard of care, BC/BS of TN decided to reverse this change in policy.
