City of San Diego Recognizes the Field of Interventional Cardiology | SCAI

SAN DIEGO – Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer has issued a proclamation declaring Wednesday, April 25, 2018, as Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Day. The proclamation coincides with the SCAI 2018 Scientific Sessions, which will attract nearly 2,000 interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular professionals during a four-day educational program at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego.

Interventional cardiologists perform minimally invasive procedures on heart disease patients. These procedures rely on catheters and small incisions instead of traditional surgery. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 600,000 mortalities each year.

For more than four decades, SCAI has been the home for interventional cardiology, promoting excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through education, advocacy, research and the development of quality standards to enhance patient care.
