SCAI is lending support to a multi-society letter expressing grave concern regarding the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) inpatient hospital reimbursement DRG assignments for the new PCS ECMO codes hospitals use to report these services. 

SCAI President David A. Cox, MD, MSCAI, also submitted a separate and unique comment letter urging CMS to improve their review process for changes to hospital coding and reimbursement. CMS has historically made changes with little or no input from the physician community, and SCAI believes this should change.
