Grant Eligibility

  • Open to SCAI members within 10 years of completing an interventional cardiology fellowship
  • Funds may not be used for any form of salary support for the award recipient
  • Funds will be distributed to the recipient only for expenditures essential to support research project completion (statistics, data use fees, data management, salaries of technical personnel essential to the conduct of the project, supplies, equipment, related travel, volunteer subject costs, etc.)
  • Research should begin in September 2022

How to Apply

  • Submissions open May 21 and close August 21, 2022
  • Applications will be reviewed by the SCAI Scientific Oversight Committee
  • Awardees will be selected and notified by September 1, 2022

Applicants must submit a 5-page single-spaced proposal as a Microsoft Word document or PDF (1" margins, using no less than 11-point font) of their proposal. Proposal submissions should demonstrate clear relevance to one or more focus areas of the chosen grant opportunity, and that includes the following:

  • Title
  • Principal Investigator
  • Co-investigators
  • Background and Rationale
  • Specific Aims
  • Research Strategy
  • References
  • Applicant Signature
  • Additional supporting materials should include NIH-style biosketches and other support pages for investigators and mentors where appropriate
  • In addition, these applications should include a 1-page budget with time frame and justification
  • Submission must clearly indicate selected SCAI Early Career Research Grant for which the proposal is to be considered: 
    • SCAI/Abbott Early Career Research Grant 
    • SCAI/Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. Early Career Research Grant 
    • SCAI/Medtronic Early Career Research Grant 
    • SCAI/ShockWave Medical Early Career Research Grant

Grant Requirements

  • Recipients will present their resulting research in a dedicated session at 2023 Scientific Sessions
  • Recipients will be invited to publish resulting manuscript(s) in JSCAI with publication fees waived
  • All deliverables funded through this research grant mechanism will be required to state "Funded by SCAI through a grant provided by the industry partner supporting the specific grant"
