EviCore Releases Update to Peripheral Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) Policy Effective July 1, 2024 | SCAI

EviCore has released an update to their peripheral IVUS policy that has been used by Aetna to pre-authorize peripheral services since September 1, 2023. SCAI has worked with ACC, SIR, AVLS, and SVS to advocate with EviCore for changes to their guidelines.

The new guidelines, effective July 1, 2024, change the peripheral IVUS policy from not routinely medically necessary to being allowed for critical limb ischemia, and claudication in absence of pre-procedural imaging for aortic bifurcation and iliac arteries and femoral-popliteal arteries.

SCAI has continued to advocate for broader IVUS policies and applauds EviCore’s decision to expand their policy guidelines. SCAI will continue to advocate for coverage of peripheral interventions.
