Dr. Khalil Ibrahim is an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Illinois (UIC) Chicago and is a staff member at the Jesse Brown Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He serves as the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory, director of the structural heart program, and director of the coronary care unit at UIC. Dr. Ibrahim was nominated for Physician of the Year at UIC in 2023.
Before joining the teams at UIC and Jesse Brown, Dr. Ibrahim completed his residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and three fellowships at Johns Hopkins Hospital, including a general cardiology fellowship, an interventional cardiology fellowship, and a structural fellowship.
Dr. Ibrahim’s clinical interests include structural and coronary procedures, including transcatheter aortic and mitral valve interventions, PFO/ASD closure, left atrial appendage occlusion, and percutaneous thrombectomy.
Dr. Ibrahim also has a strong interest in medical education and has won multiple teaching awards, including UIC’s Division of Cardiology Fellowship Teaching Award in 2023. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and currently serves on the SCAI Industry Relations Committee.
