I am both a practicing cardiologist and physiologist with expertise in translational research that has resulted in commercial products. Two of my inventions have been successfully commercialized. My credentials as a cardiologist include being a frequent recipient of the "Best Doctors in America" award and being a director of the coronary care unit at two university catheterization laboratories. My qualifications as a physiologist include continuous grant funding and peer reviewed publications for the past 34 years. The grant funding has totaled more than $15 M over the course of my career. I have a total of 291 peer reviewed publications, five book chapters, and editor of one book on interventional cardiology. I have 48 issued or pending US patents. I am on NIH grant review committees, have chaired an American Heart Association Study section, am an active SCAI and TCT abstract reviewer, have trained 30 individuals in my laboratory, and won the teacher of the year award twice from the cardiology fellows.
