About ELM

Program Overview

The Emerging Leader Mentorship (ELM) program is a competitive two-year leadership development opportunity offered in partnership with the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). ELM is designed to provide career and professional development, mentoring, and group training for early-career interventionalists. Through access to experienced SCAI, ACC, and CRF leaders, collaboration with industry supporters, and professional coaching, the ELM program will provide participants with:

• Financial and logistical support to attend SCAI, ACC, and TCT Scientific Sessions over a two-year period
• Speaking opportunities at SCAI, ACC, and TCT Scientific Sessions during the two-year program
• Focused one-on-one mentoring
• Enhance media, communication, and podium skills
• Committee involvement with the partner organizations based on individual interests
• A network of colleagues who serve as a resource of support throughout career
• Broad exposure to SCAI, CRF, and ACC
• Individualized professional development towards a clinical, research, or educational niche

After two years of the listed opportunities and appointments, ELM graduates should have a strong network and opportunities to continue developing their engagements. SCAI, ACC, and CRF will have fulfilled their program commitments to the ELM class.

Who Should Apply

Participation in the ELM Program is limited to individuals who are members of SCAI, ACC, or CRF, are 2–6 years out of training, in private or academic practice, adult or pediatric interventional cardiologists, and residing domestically or abroad.

Application Process

Applications for the 2024-26 ELM class will open in July 2023. Applications will be accepted via an online portal and materials must include: 

• Complete Curriculum Vitae to include demographic, educational, and research (publications, presentations, trial participation, grant awards, guidelines) information. Societal membership and committee roles must be stated. 
• Statement of interest in the program and what the applicant hopes to accomplish
  • Why the ELM Program will benefit you.
  • How you hope the ELM program will advance your career.
  • Your vision for potential national leadership in research, education, clinical skills, and/or political advocacy.
• Two letters of nomination and support discussing the applicant’s potential as a national leader
• Two writing samples (review articles, original manuscripts, case reports, etc.)
