The Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) proposed rule was released on July 15, 2022. While the rule governs services in the outpatient hospital and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting, it contains a change in regard to FFR/iFR and IVUS payment when performed in those settings. Due in part to SCAI’s advocacy, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed to allow payment of a complexity adjustment to the facility when FFR/iFR and IVUS are performed with other services. Currently, the outpatient facility is not paid for these imaging services. This proposed policy change would allow for greater payment parity in connection with these specific imaging services in terms of site of care. SCAI is currently reviewing the proposed rule in detail and will submit comments by the September 13 deadline.
