Pranav M. Patel, MD, FSCAI is currently the Chief of the division of cardiology at the University of California, Irvine. He has also been appointed the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Director of the CCU, and Associate Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. He also services on the Board Of Directors for the Orange County American Heart Association.
Dr. Patel is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Internal Medicine (2003) and Cardiovascular Disease (2006) and Interventional Cardiology (2007). He received his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine (1999); his degree was conferred with distinction in research. Dr. Patel performed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University/ University Hospitals of Cleveland (1999–2002). From 2002–2006 he completed his General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowships at the Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island. He then received further advanced training as a clinical and research at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital, before joining the faculty at UC Irvine.
His clinical and research interests lie in the field of OCT/IVUS imaging, coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular disease, and quality of care and outcomes. He presented at national and international cardiology meetings. He has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has authored multiple chapters in medical textbooks.
