Dr. Sandeep Patel, MD, was born and raised outside Cleveland, Ohio. He completed a 6-year BS/MD program and went on to train at prestigious institutions, which included the Mayo Clinic Rochester and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, before coming home to train at the University Hospitals-Case Western for his interventional cardiology fellowship, followed by an advanced fellowship in structural heart and peripheral vascular intervention. He has published over 60 papers and was the first author on one of the first papers regarding using Impella for left ventricular decompression in VA-ECMO. He has chosen to pursue a career bringing complex interventional services to local communities. From the ground up, he has established a top-notch structural heart program, vascular program, and complex coronary program and provided all manner of percutaneous hemodynamic support options while helping to foster the growth and standardization of the comprehensive heart team approach outside of major academic centers. He has developed a protocol for single-operator left atrial appendage occlusion and has become an expert in percutaneous ECMO, both of which he has published upon and is actively participating in course development to disseminate these various techniques and methods. He currently resides in Lima, OH, and is the director of the structural heart and intervention center at St. Rita's Medical Center (Bon Secours Mercy Health). He enjoys playing with his three kids, family movie nights, and traveling when not occupied with work.
