William L. Lombardi, MD, FSCAI
Dr. Bill Lombardi is a world-renowned expert in complex coronary disease therapies, performing hundreds of chronic total occlusions (CTOs). His groundbreaking work extends beyond the operating room into the realm of mental health awareness, where he has become a recognized thought leader through his impactful podcast, "Journey to Better." This platform allows him to share insights and foster discussions on the crucial intersection of physical health and mental well-being, further highlighting his multifaceted expertise.
Dr. Lombardi has played a pivotal role in developing novel CTO techniques and technologies, including the inception of a "hybrid algorithm" that facilitates successful, reproducible outcomes in CTO and complex lesion percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). His innovative contributions have involved over 20 new technologies aimed at improving PCI outcomes, including guide wires, microcatheters, specialty balloons, and novel approaches to reduce radiation and orthopedic injuries to operators.
His academic and clinical journey began with an MD from Tulane Medical School, followed by a residency and fellowships in interventional cardiology at the University of Utah. As a board-certified specialist in interventional cardiology, Dr. Lombardi continues to lead and innovate at the University of Washington Medical Center as a clinical professor and director of the Complex Coronary Disease Therapies Program.
In 2023, Dr. Lombardi's outstanding contributions were recognized with the prestigious Hartzler Award from TCT, honoring him as a "master operator" – the premier accolade in his field.
