SCAI's Governance Committee annually assesses the current Board of Trustees to ensure the Board is representative of SCAI membership and is well positioned to achieve SCAI's goals. It also evaluates nominations by considering the desired Board composition and competencies. 

This process, open applications and nominations, objective selection, and inclusive member involvement enable the election of the most qualified candidates, who reflect the diversity of our membership and represent excellence in interventional cardiology practice.

    Open Positions 

    Secretary

    SCAI's Executive Committee is a subset of the SCAI Board of Trustees. It provides executive direction in between Board meetings. Its Secretary serves a one-year term and then moves in succession each year to Vice President, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. 

    Qualifications
    • Must be SCAI Fellow, FSCAI, or MSCAI member in good standing to serve as Trustee
    • Interventional Cardiologist with minimum twelve (12) years’ experience
    • FSCAI designation for minimum eight (8) years
    • Ability to understand and develop strategic plan for Society
    • Visionary approach to leadership
    • Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees as Chair
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships internally and externally
    • Recognized for high personal ethics
    • Willingness to commit substantial time to SCAI—reliable and responsive
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to act in a manner representative of the diversity of SCAI members
    • Current or past SCAI Board of Trustees experience preferred
    • Previous non-SCAI leadership experience preferred
    • For Secretary: service as Chair of a previous committee for SCAI or membership on the Board of Trustees 
    Responsibilities
    • Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
    • Submits minutes of all Council meetings
    • Ensures SCAI is organized and functions according to its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws
    • Approximately 1–3 hours/week + occasional travel

    Board of Trustees (Two Members-at-Large, One International FSCAI Member, and One Congenital)

    SCAI's Board of Trustees is responsible for furthering SCAI's mission and for setting its long-term priorities and goals. The Board establishes and oversees the strategic plan and all related activities. 

    Qualifications
    • Must be SCAI Fellow, FSCAI, or MSCAI member in good standing to serve as Trustee
    • Interventional Cardiologist with greater than ten (10) years’ experience preferred
    • FSCAI designation for more than five (5) years preferred
    • Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees, preferably as Chair
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships internally and externally
    • Recognized for high personal ethics
    • Willingness to commit substantial time to SCAI—reliable and responsive
    • Ability to act in a manner representative of the diversity of SCAI members
    • Previous non-SCAI leadership experience appreciated
    Responsibilities
    • Communicate the purpose of the organization – Ensure that both members and non-members understand SCAI’s mission and purpose.
    • Serve as a resource – Engage in organizational planning, ask questions about ongoing and planned initiatives, and offer expertise and guidance.
    • Financial and budget oversight – Ensure adequate resources are available and responsible dispensation of those resources. Help create connections and engage with potential donors and supporters; protect Society assets; evaluate resource use for value to the society; and approve annual budget.  Monitor financial status, by reviewing financial statements that trustees will receive on a regular basis.
    • Programs and services prioritization –Trustees decide among competing priorities to best achieve the organization’s goals and objectives.
    • Public relations – Maintain an ambitious and effective public relations program to ensure a healthy and positive public image for SCAI. Provide clearly articulated achievements of SCAI, including but not limited to contributions to patient health and support of membership.
    • Conduct self-evaluation – Conduct reviews of its own performance periodically, by assessing membership, organizational structure, financial management, annual meeting, education, and strategic plan progress.
    • Attend meetings – Officers and Trustees are expected to attend the Annual Meeting at their own expense. SCAI will reimburse expenses related to attending Board meetings not scheduled during the Annual Meeting. Participation in conference calls is expected unless there is a valid cause for exception.
    • Approximately 3–5 hours/month + 2 face-to-face meetings annually.

    Governance Committee (One Member)

    SCAI’s Governance Committee comprises eight senior SCAI members. The Governance Committee reviews the applications of candidates for the open Board of Trustee and Executive Leadership positions and then selects the candidates put up for membership approval. The Governance Committee also chooses future SCAI event Program Chairs.

    Qualifications
    • SCAI member in good standing
    • Interventional Cardiologist with greater than ten (10) years’ experience preferred
    • FSCAI designation for more than five (5) years preferred
    • No conflicts of interest—cannot serve on the committee if applying or nominated for a position or related to an individual applying or nominated
    • Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees, as faculty, or special representatives
    • Broad-based knowledge of interventional community
    • Recognized for high ethical standards and support for inclusiveness and diversity
    Responsibilities
    • Review and recruit candidates for slate of leadership to Board of Trustees and Governance Committee
    • Personally reach out to prospective candidates and candidates not selected
    • Review and select Helping Heart Award Recipient 
    • Approximately 3–8 hours/month January–March

    Selection Process

    1. The Governance Committee will review all application and nomination forms based on publicly published eligibility criteria.
    2. Following this process, the Committee may ask candidates to participate in a phone interview to collect further information about their application or nomination.
    3. The Governance Committee will then put before the SCAI Membership a Slate of Nominations and two candidates for Secretary for a vote to determine the incoming leaders of SCAI membership.
    4. The announcement of the results will be in April.
