SCAI, working with the Tobacco-Free Kids campaign, strongly supported language in the Senate version of the omnibus spending bill to give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate products containing synthetic (non-tobacco) nicotine. In addition to funding the government’s spending until September, the bill closes a loop-hole and allows FDA new powers to regulate synthetic nicotine found in e-cigarettes popular among teenagers such as Puff Bar’s Banana Ice and Cool Mint. President Biden recently signed the legislation into law.
