SCAI has joined the AMA and many other physician organizations in a letter to Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) urging it to tell Congress to provide physicians with a much needed fiscal stability by passing legislation that provides an annual inflation-based payment update based on the full MEI. For the first time, MedPAC recommended that Congress increase the 2024 Medicare physician payment rate above the current law with an inflation-based payment update tied to the MEI. The letter commends MedPAC for taking this significant step but notes that an inflation-based update based on only half of the full MEI growth rate would be a missed opportunity.
