Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee (BC/BS of TN) recently changed their utilization management policy to make the “goal” length of stay for TAVR 23-hour observation. Initial authorization will only be given for observation. Additional authorization must be requested if the patient is admitted. SCAI Government Relations sent a letter to BC/BS of TN opposing this policy because outpatient observation for TAVR is inconsistent with the current standard of care.
