Washington, DC (July 17, 2023) The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) President George D. Dangas, MD, PhD, MSCAI, released the following statement in response to the release of the proposed rule for the calendar year 2024 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS):
“CMS’ cuts to physician reimbursement payments in the proposed 2024 PFS demonstrate, once again, that we need a long-term solution to fix this broken system. With physician participation in Medicare and Medicaid at a historic low, now is not the time to push further cuts on physicians, who have endured more than two decades of declining Medicare reimbursements.
“SCAI will continue to fight these cuts in Congress on behalf of our members, who also face financial harm from budget neutrality constraints due to CMS’ changes to clinical labor pricing and value increases to an evaluation and management add-on code, G2211. We call on Congress to act quickly to prevent imminent cuts in upcoming appropriations legislation. We continue to urge Congress to advance lasting solutions to the broken Medicare physician reimbursement payment program, in part through H.R. 3674, the Providing Relief and Stability for Medicare Patients Act of 2023. We look forward to addressing these issues with Congress and the administration in a bipartisan manner, that delivers the best outcome for patients and providers.”
