Douglas E. Drachman, MD, MSCAI | SCAI

Dr. Douglas Drachman is the Heart Center Director of Education and the Teresa G. and Ferdinand F. Martignetti Endowed Chair for Cardiovascular Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His career has focused on education and advancing clinical care.

Dr. Drachman received his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine, then completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in general cardiology and interventional cardiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He joined the faculty of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 2002, where he is an interventional cardiologist and a member of the Cardiology Division, the Section of Vascular Medicine, and an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He currently directs the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program, having previously served as Program Director for the MGH Cardiology Fellowship for nine years. In 2008, he was awarded the Brian McGovern Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2015, he was selected as the Program Director of the Year for Partners HealthCare. Nationally, he participated in the Emerging Leaders Mentorship (ELM) Program of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and subsequently served as Chair of the SCAI Education Committee and Founder of the SCAI Fellows’ Interventional Regional Shared Training Program (SCAI FIRST). He participated in the Emerging Faculty Program of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), upon the completion of which he was awarded the W. Proctor Harvey Teaching Award in 2011. He subsequently led programmatic educational efforts for the ACC as Chair of the Faculty Development Workgroup and the Curriculum Design Committee. He was selected to serve as the Vice Chair for the ACC Scientific Session starting in 2021 and is now the Chair of the meeting for 2023 and 2024. He has also held educational leadership roles in the American Heart Association, including serving as Chair of the Laennec & Postgraduate Education Committee.
