Dr. Fredy El Sakr is a structural and interventional cardiologist at Northside Hospital Cardiovascular Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. He specializes in the interventional treatment of structural heart disease, complex coronary disease, cardiogenic shock, and pulmonary embolism.
Prior to starting in Atlanta, he received his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University as part of a 6 year accelerated Bachelor of Science and medical degree program. He then completed his training in internal medicine, general cardiology, and interventional cardiology at the University of Michigan.
He started his career under the mentorship of Jeff Marshall, MD MSCAI, and Cindy Grines, MD, MSCAI who have been instrumental in his involvement in SCAI as well as progressing the structural heart disease and cardiogenic shock programs at Northside Hospital. He has been on the SCAI CME Oversight Committee and Structural Heart Disease Committee. He has been a key player in the development of the cardiogenic shock/ECMO program, advancing quality initiatives of the structural heart program, and developing the PE response program at Northside Hospital Gwinnett. He is passionate about providing exceptional clinical care for his patients whilst equally acknowledging and supporting them through the human experience of the disease.
He is the son of Egyptian physicians who immigrated when he was 6 years old to the USA, but whose American dream was shifted when his father passed away from a heart attack 6 months after their arrival. This sparked his passion for cardiology and made him forever grateful for his mother’s sacrifice. He is most thankful for his wife, Ashleigh, of 10 years and three children.
