Advanced Peripheral Vascular Interventional Cardiology Course

December 1–3, 2023

Program Overview

The SCAI Fellows Advanced Peripheral Vascular Interventional Cardiology Course is designed for fellows in training focusing on peripheral vascular disease. In this course, you will experience in-depth education and step-by-step instruction for common procedures while honing your technical skills with ultrasound-guided access simulation, a guided cadaveric leg workshop, simulations in iliac vein stenting, thrombectomy, atherectomy, and more. You will also gain valuable clinical skills and deepen your professional network by interacting with the small community of endovascular interventionalists. Your future colleagues will be there, and you should be too.

With unique access to experienced SCAI leaders, collaboration with industry, and interaction with your peers, the SCAI Fellows Advanced PeripheralVascular Interventional Cardiology Course will enable you to:

  • Analyze the impact of operator clinical and technical experience on case selection for complex endovascular therapy and adopt a graduated progression in case selection based on experience and complexity
  • Apply procedural techniques to clinical case vignettes, including complications management
  • Compare atheromatous plaque therapies
  • Describe access sites and closure techniques with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-indicated devices
  • Describe procedural therapies for pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, complex lower extremity peripheral artery disease, aortoiliac occlusive disease, and long femoropopliteal lesions
  • Determine the most effective mode of revascularization based on patient- and lesion-specific factors and discuss the role of hybrid revascularization strategies
  • Employ strategies for practice and professional development
  • Establish strategies for preprocedural planning, including the use of noninvasive imaging modalities to guide access choices
  • Plan for longitudinal management and medical optimization following lower extremity reconstruction, with a focus on team-based care
  • Review appropriate wound care and indications for limited or major amputations
  • Utilize anatomical dissections using cadaveric and 3D models and review the interventional equipment and technical skills/steps required while performing case-based simulation in a multitude of scenarios
