Washington, DC —The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) President George D. Dangas, MD, PhD, MSCAI, released the following statement in response to the release of the President’s Budget for the 2025 fiscal year:
“President Biden’s commitment to protecting and strengthening Medicare is only as good as Medicare’s ability to deliver quality, affordable health care through a robust network of physicians and providers. Since 2001, the conversion factor under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule has fallen from $38.26 to $33.28. Physicians are paid less for the same services 23 years later, while inflation has eroded the value of reimbursements. In total, Medicare physician payments have fallen 30% after adjusting for inflation. Physicians need a fair and sustainable reimbursement system from Medicare to remain financially viable and to ensure quality, accessible, and affordable care for Medicare beneficiaries.”
