Dr. Sandoval is an Interventional Cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and an investigator at the Center for Coronary Artery Disease, Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He specializes in the management of patients with acute and chronic coronary and complex percutaneous coronary interventions, including the use of intracoronary physiology and imaging, and cardiac biomarkers. He has published over 145 peer-reviewed manuscripts, with emphasis on the diagnosis and risk-stratification of patients with suspected acute coronary syndromes, including type 2 myocardial infarction and the use of cardiac troponin assays. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Interventional Section Leadership Council and the International Federation for Clinical Chemistry Committee on Clinical Applications of Cardiac Bio-Markers (IFCC C-CB). He is also part of the 2022-2024 Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Emerging Leader Mentorship (ELM) program. He has previously served in the SCAI Ischemic Heart Disease Council and the SCAI 2020 Scientific Sessions Program Committee. He has received numerous recognitions, including the 2016 ACC Young Investigator Award Finalist, the 2021 Mayo Clinic Interventional Cardiology Teacher of the Year Award, and in 2022 he was selected to participate in the ACC Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy.
In 2024, Dr. Sandoval was the recipient of the SCAI-Medtronic Early Career Research Grant for his project, Validation of Angiographic FFR Compared to Pressure-Wire Based FFR in Patients Undergoing Bifurcation PCI.
