Giorgio A. Medranda, MD, FSCAI, is a board‑certified structural interventional cardiologist with Catholic Health, practicing at Good Samaritan University Hospital on Long Island, New York. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, followed by a two-year interventional cardiology fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Medranda is a well-rounded structural interventional cardiologist with extensive training in coronary and structural heart disease, holding multiple board certifications, including cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, vascular medicine, cardiac computed tomography, and interventional cardiology. His clinical practice focuses on complex coronary and structural interventions.
Dr. Medranda’s research interests center on coronary and structural interventions, with a particular focus on radiation safety and exposure reduction in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. He has served on multiple steering, clinical event, and publication committees, leading numerous concurrent research initiatives presented at international cardiology conferences, resulting in more than 80 peer-reviewed publications early in his career. He currently serves as principal investigator for the ATTENUATE Trial, culminating in the presentation of its randomized controlled trial results as a late-breaking clinical trial at CRT 2026. He has also served as a sub-investigator on several landmark trials and registries, including ENVISION, APOLLO, PROGRESS, the MVSS Registry, and the HARP study.
Dr. Medranda has been invited to serve as a reviewer for Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions (CCI), Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine (CRM), CRM: Interesting Cases, JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, and JSCAI. He currently serves on the editorial boards of CRM, CRM: Interesting Cases, and JSCAI, and as social media liaison for CRM and CRM: Interesting Cases, expanding the journals’ digital footprint and engagement. He has received multiple awards for outstanding completion of manuscript reviews from several journals.
He maintains active leadership roles within national cardiovascular societies, including membership of the SCAI Structural Heart Disease Council, the Broadening Opportunity, Leadership, and Delivery of Patient Care (BOLD) Committee, SCAI’s Standards & Guidelines Committee, and the ACC Research Fellowship Awards Committee. He also serves on the SCAI and ACC Scientific Sessions Abstract Grading Committees, the CRM Abstract Grading Committee, and the ABIM Interventional Cardiology Item‑Writing Task Force, and was appointed to the American Heart Association’s IPA Clinical Population Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Medranda has received numerous academic honors, including the SCAI “30 in Their 30s” Award, Young Leadership Recognition Program (CRT), Young Investigator Award Finalist (ACC Scientific Sessions), multiple Top Oral Abstract Awards at CRT, Best Abstract at SCAI Scientific Sessions, and Best Poster at Complex Cardiovascular Catheter Therapeutics (C3).
Dr. Medranda has held regional leadership roles, including vice-chair of the New York ACC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force, lead of the New York ACC Mentorship Program, judge for the New York ACC Young Investigators Competition, and member of the New York ACC Early Career Committee. He has participated as faculty at national and international meetings, including CRT, ACC, EPIC-SEC, SCAI, TVT, TCT, and AHA, and currently serves on the CRT planning committee, as well as the abstract and late-breaking clinical trial grading committees.
Deeply committed to community outreach, diversity, and mentorship, Dr. Medranda serves as chair of the New York ACC Brooklyn Heart-to-Heart Community Outreach Committee and is an active member of the New York ACC Queens Heart-to-Heart Committee. He co-chairs the Capitol Fellows Forum in Washington, DC, and the Long Island Fellows Forum, both regional educational initiatives for cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology fellows. His mentorship activities include serving as vice chair of the New York State ACC Mentorship Program, mentor for the ACC Internal Medicine–Cardiology Program, ACC Cardiology Applicant Mentorship Program, SCAI Mentor Connect Program, and the ACC Young Scholars Program.
